After 20 years in the Merchant City, we have moved back to our roots in the West End, where we began our first shop in 1997.
We wanted our new shop to have a different feel from the previous one and approached Glasgow based cabinet maker Joachim King in Govan who we knew would do a great job. We had seen some of Jo's other creations and were very excited when he took on our project!
Along with some fairly detailed case designs, the brief we gave him was to create the whole interior in plywood, bringing a light yet warm woody-toned feeling to the space. Jo suggested using birch-ply which he would treat with a white stain to subdue the natural honey tones of the birch while allowing the grain to shine through which has worked perfectly.
From the linear detailing of the ply's edge to mitred joints and smooth finishes, the overall feeling of the space is calm and inviting, a great environment to be in and for us to work in...
Our idea was for the shop interior to be something of a blank canvas where we could introduce colour to the jewellery displays on a seasonal basis, thus transforming the overall look. To this end we've sourced 100% wool felt which comes in an array of colours.
We love ORRO being back in the West End to join the individual shops of the neighbourhood...
See you all soon, Neil + Wes
